ICCL is hiring a Technology Fellow

We are hiring! ICCL Technology Fellow

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties is hiring a technical expert with experience in a domain related to understanding AI/automated decision making, such as adversarial machine learning or inversion attacks. We want to understand what happens (intentionally and unintentionally) when artificial intelligence tools make high impact automatic decisions.

What you will do

ICCL is developing a project to understand what happens when artificial intelligence tools make high impact automatic decisions. High impact examples may include automated border control, social payments checks, antifraud systems, school exam grading, discriminatory pricing, content moderation, and so on.

We want to contribute to the development of European and national AI legislation, in particular the proposed EU Artificial Intelligence Act. We want to uncover high impact examples of harmful and positive uses of automated decision making in Europe.

You will contribute to the shape and design of the project. You will report to a senior fellow at ICCL, but this project will have your personal stamp on it.

Together we will ask questions like: What uses of automated decisionmaking have the most impact on people? What data are used to make these decisions? What is the logic of the decisionmaking? If personal data are used, what are the stated processing purposes? What are the consequences of the decisions? What are the unintended consequences?

If it turns out that these are the wrong questions, or that we cannot gather the data to answer these questions, you will propose changes to the project to fix the problem.
