Dr Johnny Ryan gave a keynote speech at the launch of the European Parliament tracking-free ads coalition.
The Coalition intends to investigate whether Europe should prevent online surveillance to protect privacy and better support journalism.
Javier Espinoza of The Financial Times moderated the event, which was held on 28 January 2021, and was organised with ICCL’s colleagues at EDRi. Also speaking was Linda Worp of Ster, the saleshouse of Dutch publishing group NPO.
Their presentations were followed by a discussion between Jens Redmer, Europe Head of Public Policy for Digital Advertising at Google; Eliška Pírková, Europe Policy Analyst at Access Now; and Paul Tang, Member of the European Parliament.
The founding MEPs of the European Parliament Tracking-free Ads Coalition are Wölken, Geese, Breyer, Kolaja, Schirdewan, Agius Saliba, Sippel, Regner, Leitao-Marques, Kaili, Melchior, Ertug and Tang.
