ICCL has always campaigned for freedom of expression in Ireland, including against censorship of political speech, in support of artistic expression, and against the criminalisation of blasphemy. The freedom to freely exchange ideas, views and experiences without disproportionate interference is fundamental for a flourishing democracy, the protection of human dignity and full participation in public life. In 2021, the government invited submissions to a consultation on the future of media which engages these issues.
