ICCL has written again to Minister O’Gorman calling for a reversal of his decision not to task an independent human rights legal expert to review the content and treatment of survivor testimony given to Mother and Baby Home Commission. Our last letter focused on specific UN Human Rights Committee recommendations and was before the Minister went before the Oireachtas on this matter. This letter outlines why we believe the Minister’s reasoning was flawed and why he should reverse his decision. We’re also calling for a key change to the proposed redress scheme – removal of the legal waiver which denies access to justice.
