Guilty Until Proven Innocent?

High-profile US lawyer Nancy Hollander is to speak at an event on 26 January at 6pm aimed at ending the use of the Special Criminal Court. Hollander is best known for her defence of Chelsea Manning and Guantanamo Bay detainees. She was also portrayed by Jodie Foster in The Mauritanian. She has worked in the Special Criminal Court.

Hollander will be joined on a panel by Osgur Breatnach, who was wrongly convicted at the Court. Breatnach was the subject of RTE’s Crimes and Confessions on 17 January.

The event will be hosted by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties on 26 January at 6pm online. There will also be input from Irish legal experts with experience of the Court.

The Independent Review Group on the Special Criminal Court is due to publish its report in April 2022.
